VITA Supervisors
Site supervisors are Loyola students who supervise other Loyola students at Loyola Sponsored Sites. You are only eligible to be a Site Supervisor if you have taken and completed VITA. Agreeing to serve as a Site Supervisor is the only way you can repeat the VITA course.
NEW this year! E-filing training will be provided via a computer internet program. Learn about it at the class on Jan. 24.
Before VITA begins, students who want to be Site Supervisors should:
- Confirm eligibility with the Externship Office, who will provide you with the enrollment course number.
- Sign your performance agreement in the Externship Office.
- Pick up training materials in the Graphics department.
- You may review the IRS Saturday trainings by video if that is more convenient for you.
- If you want to work at one of the E-filing only sites, you must complete the Taxwise training discussed in class on Jan. 24. You do the taxwise training on your own schedule, via an internet program. You will automatically self-test yourself. When you have completed the internet training and the exam, you may begin service hours. Certification of training must be turned in on or before Saturday, January 24, 2009.
- You may sign up for your hours on TWEN pages.
When service hours begin:
- Pick up attendance sheets for your session in the Externship Office;
- At form sites, if any forms are missing or needed, you must notify the Externship Department in person, by phone or a prompt e-mail so the forms can be replaced before the next session.
- Take attendance. Notify the Externship Department within 24 hours of any unexcused absences.
- Keep track of the number of joint returns and individual returns prepared by site students for that sessions and report the information to the Externship Department within 24 hours. Phone reports should be made to (213) 736-1103. e-mail information to Camille.Toomer@lls.edu.
- Keep a time sheet and document your hours. No one but you need sign off on it, but you must turn one in to document your hours. Turn it in to the Externship Department on or before April 30 to get course credit.
Thank you for agreeing to serve as a site supervisor!
