Saving a PowerPoint show so it starts quickly

A quick and easy way to launch a PowerPoint presentation is to save the presentation as a slideshow and place a shortcut to it on your Desktop. Slideshows open independently of the PowerPoint application, which means you can start the slideshow without maneuvering through PowerPoint's menus.

To do this, you will need to be sure the presentation is saved as a slideshow (with a *.pps extension) instead of as the default presentation (with a *.ppt extension). To change the file format, click File, Save As. The Save As Type field, select PowerPoint Show (*.pps) and click Save. You can also right click the file, click Rename, change the file extension to *.pps and press ENTER. To run the slideshow from your Desktop, right-click the file and select Show.
