MAC OS 10.5 (Leopard) and LLS Wireless

Please be advised that a number of Mac users who have recently updated to Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) have not been able to connect to the campus wireless network. Not all users of Leopard have this experience. At this time we are still trying to determine what the cause may be. Updates will be posted here as need warrants.

Important Information Regarding Windows Vista at Loyola Law School

Microsoft Corporation's Windows Vista operating system and Office 2007 both contain significant changes in terms of function, look and minimum system requirements for their use.

The Law School Information Technology Department (ITD) has been evaluating Vista and how it will impact services we support. We are already providing minimal support for critical systems as successful testing warrants. Our goal, as always, is to provide users with a stable Windows work environment and stable integration with our campus computing systems. In order to do this, significant testing is needed before we are assured we have met these goals.

Though Vista is now available, it is not always prudent for an enterprise to immediately deploy it. Although Microsoft has already done significant operational testing, they are not able to mimic all work environments before releasing products. Many organizations look for the first large update or service pack to be available prior to deploying a new operating system across their organization. This is not expected until early 2008.

Further updates on our progress with Vista support will be posted here as news warrants.

Important note regarding Cisco Clean Access and McAfee Antivirus v12 or higher and update regarding Norton Antivirus 2008

Currently Cisco Clean Access (CCA) does not support McAfee Antivirus v12. We are not aware of when support will be provided. In the mean time you may wish to uninstall what you have and obtain our free Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition software until such time as Cisco can support the new McAfee and Norton versions.

We previously noted that Norton Internet Security 2008/Norton Antivirus 2008 was also not supported. Cisco has released a new version of the Clean Access Software, v4.1.2.1, which now properly recognizes this program. Please be sure to update your Clean access software when it prompts you at login.

Password policies

Full list of password requirements »

ITD will reset passwords for those people locked out of one or more accounts, however passwords will only be reset during normal work hours and there may be significant delays during busy periods.

For a full list of password requirements and other information about passwords at LLS, visit All About Passwords »

These changes will apply to all types of accounts including LDAP accounts (used to access email and calendaring among other services), Novell accounts, Exeter Student Information System accounts, web publishing accounts, majordomo related accounts, and so on. They also apply to passwords shared by a group of users. Services hosted off at campus will not be directly impacted by these changes.

Physical security changes

Institutionally owned PC's are reconfigured so that sessions lock after 15 minutes of inactivity. A password will be required to unlock the session.
