Using exam software for Spring 2008 exams - updated 3/3/2008
The following procedures for obtaining the correct exam software for your computer should be followed very closely. We encourage everyone to take care of preparing your computer for exams early. In the event of some unforeseen computer problem, your options for still being able to use your computer for exams may be limited.
For Spring 2008, there is an updated version of Securexam for both Windows and Mac users that will be used for midterm and final exams. The new version for Windows has a built in detection tool that will determine if you have a previous version of the program installed. If so, it will first uninstall it and then install the new one. For Mac users, the new version will overwrite the previous version automatically.
Windows users - Click here to get your software. Your login is your full LLS e-mail address (firstname.lastname@lls.edu) and your password is your LLS student ID number.
Once you have installed your new software, connect your laptop to the Internet, open the software, run the "get exams and licenses" process, then the "login and take an exam" process. If you want to try out the software, ONLY USE THE PRACTICE EXAM, NOT ANY REAL EXAM THAT MAY BE AVAILABLE. REAL EXAMS ARE TO ONLY BE OPENED ON THE DAY OF THE EXAM, NOT BEFORE.
Mac users - Click here to get your software (8.4MB download). DO NOT GET YOUR SOFTWARE FROM THE PLANETSSI WEB SITE. It is not the same.
Once you have installed your new software, connect your laptop to the Internet and run the Securexam Activation process before attempting to start the program. Activation will bring a key file to your computer that contains your exam list. Once your software is activated you may practice using the program by selecting any exam from the list. Once your software is activated you may select any exam to use for practice. Unlike the Windows version, the Mac version will allow you to reselect an exam.
General exam considerations:
- All computers being used for exam purposes must have wireless network connections.
- Windows users should have Windows XP or Vista. Since Windows 2000 is no longer supported by Microsoft, it is not recommended that you use Windows 2000 with Securexam.
- We recommend that Windows laptops have a minimum of 512MB of available memory to run Securexam. It may still be possible to run the program with less (minimum of 384MB memory), but it depends on how your computer allocates memory between system needs and video.
- Mac OS users must have at least OS10.3 with all updates. OS10.5 has been certified to work with Securexam.
Assistance is available from the Computer Lab staff during the lab's regular hours of operation.
